The initial prick when the chip is implanted is similar to the pet getting a vaccination or shot, the animal will hardly notice it. After implantation the microchip is imperceptible to the animal and requires no maintenance.

No, once your name is connected with the chip ID it will remain in the database indefinitely. The only reason to update it is if you have a new phone number or address.
